Hi,
I have been writing software, and managing software operations for a number
of years. How many is a secret. Currently I operate Howlett Approach, a Waterloo
.NET design and development consultancy that specializes in what Microsoft calls
"Smart Client" – particularly Compact Framework-based mobility
applications and the extension of Office components through such techniques as
managed add-ins, using technologies like VSTO. I've written and spoken from time
to time on .NET and I'm a former Microsoft Regional Director. I am an
enthusiastic supporter of, and contributor to, the CTT Dot Net Users Group (CTT
= Kitchener, Waterloo, Guelph).
Within the past ten years or so, I have been the CEO of Freedom Intelligence
(high-performance data warehousing SQL engine), the founder and CEO of Web
Pearls Inc. (Web-based education in Math and Science) and Executive Vice
President of Maplesoft (a.k.a. Waterloo Maple - advanced computer algebra
systems). I'm currently a member of the Boards of Directors of Maplesoft and Web
Pearls.
I have four University degrees including a PhD in Mathematics and an MBA.
This is kind of excessive and I can only blame it on a misspent youth. I have a
certain notoriety in the Kitchener-Waterloo area as the author of a possibly
over-engineered SOA ASP.NET application, called dotGOLF, that runs once a year
for exactly four days, in April, when the Magnolias bloom in Augusta.
